How do you Position Yourself to make a Demand?

In collaboration with taisha paggett

As a part of Hunt and pagget’s collaborative On Movement, Thought and Politics, this project was developed out of movement workshops with members of the Los Angeles Garment Workers’ Center. The result is a staging for the camera of the Center’s political training materials — posters used to teach members how to confront textile factory employers about unpaid wages and working conditions. Taking these posters as movement scores, the participants took turns directing themselves into still tableaus for the video camera, embodying their reads of the posters and reflecting on their meaning and effectiveness for their organizing. The result was a 3-channel video and photographic installation, produced originally for the 2009 FOCA exhibition, Performing Economies, curated by Elana Mann: https://www.elanamann.com/writing/elana-mann-performing-economies
